New Short Story in RHP Issue 15
That's one checked off the bucket list

At the beginning of the year, I set a number of writing goals. As you can see via the image above, I 100% won't be hitting every single one (see ya 12 monthly posts!). But one that I was very proud to check off at the beginning of this year was submitting a new short story to Rock and a Hard Place Press. Ever since their launch, RHP has been a bucket list publication for me, a magazine that has published works from some of the best crime and thriller writers working today! Yet for the longest time I was afraid to submit, the fear of rejection blocking me from going for it.
As I sat down at the beginning of the year forming my goals, I had a long chat with myself. Here I was, a father of a soon to be 3-year-old who I spent most days coaching the importance of trying new things and that's it's okay to fail as long we try, afraid to try myself! So I said, "Screw it." I couldn't control if RHP accepted or rejected my work. However, I could control whether or not I submitted my version of my best possible work, acceptance or rejection be damned.
Well, I am so happy to announce the publication of my newest short story, "Shucks," in the Fall 2025 issue of Rock and a Hard Place. I am so thankful to the team for believing in my story and am honored for it to be included with such an amazing lineup of other writers.
Gil only ever planned to be in town for a month. His plan was simple: get his affairs in order and be done with, well, all of it. Then the doorbell rang.
